BUCM Conference May 24, 2017

A wonderful experience lecturing and demonstrating Shen-Hammer pulse at BUCMs Characteristic Therapy Workshop for Traditional Chinese Medicine.  It was an honor to stand in for Dr. Hammer and be included and welcomed as a representative of the Menghe lineage.  A special treat to spend the day with Dr. Ding Yie, great grandson of Ding Ganren, and nephew to Ding Jiwan, Dr. John Shen’s teacher.

Very happy to announce my upcoming book, “Heart Shock: An Approach to Diagnosing and Treating Trauma with Shen-Hammer and Classical Chinese Medicine” to be published by Singing Dragon publications. “Heart Shock” will present in detail the myriad components of trauma, establish primary, secondary and tertiary treatment strategies and merge the Shen-Hammer and Classical understanding of this important topic. Thanks to Claire Lindsey Wilson and Singing Dragon for their enthusiasm with this project. Stay tuned, anticipated publication end of this year, early next….

Why The Only Thing Influenza May Kill Is Germ Theory

An interesting article that reveals a sub-segment of western science and research catching up to some conclusions Chinese medicine has made thousands of years ago:

  1.  The terrain/landscape/constitution is of paramount importance and determines the nature of the expression; it is not ‘us vs. them’
  2.  Exposures to environmental and external influences produce a major ecological opportunity and response than can be immensely beneficial

Zika: A Year in Review

by Ann Tomoko Rosen

A Critical Thinker’s Guide to Zika

Zika will most certainly be remembered as the pandemic of 2016, but like many pandemics of recent memory (think Swine Flu, Avian Flu, Ebola), it failed to live up to the inflated numbers and devastating statistics that the CDC ceaselessly projected through mainstream and social media. As a narrative, the Zika Crisis of 2016 rivaled Hollywood blockbusters with its global threats and dramatic turns, but as our villain, the Zika threat remained elusive. As the year came to a close it seemed that perhaps a better detective and less of a S.W.A.T. team might help us navigate the medical mysteries that plague us in the 21st Century.

Pulse Diagnosis

Contemporary Oriental Medicine®

Contemporary Oriental Medicine® (COM), is a dynamic, integrated model of diagnosis and treatment based on the experience of master physicians John Shen OMD and Leon Hammer MD; it includes aspects of TCM and classical Chinese writings. COM revives forgotten patterns of Chinese Medicine, yet is an evolving Leonmedicine adapting to modern health issues. This methodology, developed by Dr Hammer, includes an in-depth diagnosis focused on Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis, and a distinctive approach to the patient’s history and experience of life. COM makes possible an individualized course of treatment by enabling the practitioner to delineate an individual from their disease. Finally, COM is a unique method of evaluating the patient’s condition, diagnosis, and intervention based on critical thinking. It leads to an organized hierarchy which identifies root causes, immediate interventions, referrals, life style counseling and treatment methods.

Classical Chinese Medicine

Classical Chinese Medicine relies on the understanding that health requires balance and the capacity to change and adapt, especially to the cycles and rhythms of nature. Failure to do so enables imbalance to set in and the ensuing disease process, which can never be separated from the uniqueness of the individual him/herself.  Classical Chinese Medicine adds exponential complexity and subtlety to the diagnoses, strategies and treatment options available.  It incorporates the full range of the meridian systems, including the sinew, divergent, luo, primary and eight extraordinary meridians.  Jeffrey

Classical Pulse Diagnosis, incorporating diagnostic criteria for each of the channel systems and organ system interrelationships and directionality, the virtues of the organ systems and personality type adds increased precision to diagnoses and treatment.
